Mafia Kumasi is a cluster of 9 main communities surrounded by 24villages in the north Tongu District of the Volta Region of Ghana. The communities traditionally share in economic and infrastructural facilities available in the area, e.g market, schools, water sources and festivals. The community marks the 20th year of its water supply system this year. In celebrating the anniversary it is important to recall the extreme difficult and distressful years of suffering of the people as a result of lack of access to safe water sources and subsequent effect of the dreadful water borne disease, namely guinea-worm. Today these hazards have become things of the past and only a few people could still remember them. The lessons learnt should however guide us, the citizens in particular, in managing and sustaining the facilities.
